What makes our school special?

the Unique Child

  • We have a strong focus on every child as an individual and time is taken to get to know his or her, their likes, areas of strength and personality.

  • Every child’s successes are valued and celebrated.

  • We know that happy children learn best so make sure that we invest time in getting to know each child and family, so that the child’s journey through the school can be as successful as possible.

  • Teachers design units of learning which they know will inspire the children and within these there are plenty of opportunities for children’s own ideas, research and ways of presenting their work.

  • We believe that every child has can and should achieve and that our job is to find the best way to support that achievement.

  • We recognise that children learn in different ways.

  • We are fortunate to have a non-class based Inclusion/Sendco as well as two ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) trained TAs, a TA who is trained to support children who have suffered bereavement and an intervention TA.

outdoor

learning

  • We are fortunate to have our own piece of woodland as well as a large playground, all weather running track, trim trails and two fields – all of which are well used on a daily basis.

  • Children in years R – 3 take part in weekly woodland learning sessions which help develop skills across a range of curriculum areas.

  • Classes each have an allocated garden area for growing fruit and vegetables which they plant, nurture and harvest.

  • Approximately a quarter of the curriculum is taught outdoors at Rudgwick.

  • Each week we run Forest School Club, open to all years.

  • Outdoor learning allows children to put their focus back on nature and learning outdoors naturally inspires children to be more physically active.

  • We believe that Physical Education prepares children to be physically and mentally active, fit and healthy...for life.

  • Gymnastics is a particular strength of the school and over 80 children take part in before or after school gym clubs which are run by accredited British Gymnastics coach Mrs Thompson.

  • We have recently built an all weather track around the school field. This is used daily.

Physical EducatioN

  • We currently hold the Gold School Sports Award and are on track for the highest award Platinum next year.

  • We are fortunate to have a PE specialist teacher Mrs Davies working alongside the class teachers to ensure that our curriculum PE provision is of the highest quality and helps children develop skills across a wide range of sporting areas including rugby, tennis, volleyball, rounders, Speed Agility and Quickness etc.

music

Music for All

We are a singing school and believe that music is an important part of primary school education and have invested heavily in it. All children in Year 1, 2 and 3 receive weekly tuition from a West Sussex Music Service teacher. This gives every child a grounding in basic music appreciation. In KS2 many children choose to continue by learning to play one or more instruments.

We have a very active choir.

Piano Lessons

At Rudgwick Primary we work in partnership with Rudi Eastwood, a talented pianist who can provide private piano tuition for your child during the school week. The children who have undertaken lessons are highly enthusiastic and have shown excellent progress under his tuition. To find out more about Rudi's work please click the link below:
